I’m only going to rate my best fest and my worst fest at the moment. I’ll get to the in between ones later. This one is definitely the worst fest I’ve ever attended. When I arrived to the check in I was completely ignored, and when I finally did get my badge, they returned to ignoring me. I”m not saying I’m all that and a bag of chips, but when I arrive at a new festival completely discombobulated, not knowing where to go, what to do, what the festival badge does, I need just a tiny bit of direction. This one, the festival badge is practically worthless. It gets you and a friend into your own screening, and a handful of early afternoon screenings throughout the week, but other than that, they leverage the filmmakers as a revenue stream for their festival. If you meet another filmmaker at the festival and want to see their film it’ll cost you another $10. It’s pretty disgusting. The other thing is, don’t expect anyone to actually see your film at this festival. Unless you are screening at the 7:30 slot, and chances are if you are reading this, you won’t be, it will be you and the person you got in on your badge watching your film in an empty theater. In my opinion, don’t submit to this festival. There are a hundred other festivals in LA to submit to, this is not the one. If you must submit, don’t waste your time going because you’ll be sorely disappointed. FYI, my favorite festivals thus far have been Couch Fest, Cucalorous, and SF Shorts. All three have an exciting fun atmosphere and play to sold out theaters!
