1 THE most expensive entry fees for a local festival. More than Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca, Venice. $65.00 for the EARLYBIRD deadline? Please.

2 This is just my opinion based on MY experience, but I have entered over 200 festivals, dealt with scores of festival programmers, and been accepted as an official selection in 21 festivals. And this is the most amateur festival I’ve dealt with.

The festival has been described by other filmmakers I’ve spoken to as “Mickey Mouse”. For all the money they make and “sponsors” and prizes they award ($45,000?), you’d think they could afford a more appropriate award than what looks like a children’s director’s slate with the name of the winner scrawled on it in chalk.

They were kind enough to waive the incredibly exorbitant entry fees because of the festival director’s friendship with our star, and our film was accepted. But when I asked for a pass for one guest for one screening of our film, they refused, asking me to pay for an extra ticket. When I complained, nicely, they pulled our film from the festival. I have never been so relieved.

There are better places to spend your festival dollars, in my opinion.
