I’ve had the pleasure of going to this festival twice (in 2009 and 2011). Back in 09, this was the very first festival we ever submitted to and the very first one we got into. So going down to little Duncan, OK we had no idea what to expect.

Needless to say, we got spoiled. The venue is beautiful. The town is quite charming and easy to navigate through. The community really gets behind this festival and attendence was very solid despite the town only having around 20,000 people. We were treated like rockstars after our screening. People were coming up to us left and right to get autographs and take pictures with us. It was such an amazing feeling. I almost hated to go back home.

The awards show both years was really great. Held in a 750 seat theater. It really does feel like a small town version of the Oscars. Even the trophies look like a cowboy version of an Oscar.

In 2011 we were quite pleased to see how much the festival had grown. I think it was more fun in 2009 b/c it was our first time and we won 3 awards (won 1 in 2011) but still, the parties were great. Most of the films were pretty solid too. Industry presence isn’t quite where I’d like it to be, but it is growing and Trail Dance Film Festival should become a force in the festival world within the next 5 years.

I can’t wait to go back.
